Industrial Project Examples


Project: Route 66 Ethanol, Tucumcari, New Mexico Air Dispersion Model Report. 
Client need: To demonstrate compliance with New Mexico Ambient Air Quality Standards and NAAQS for NO2, CO, SO2, PM, PM10, and PM2.5. 
Service provided: Submitted a modeling protocol then modeled for baseline PSD minor source class II increment impacts and cumulative impacts, including surrounding sources.  Lakes Environmental software was used with the latest version of AERMOD. 
Resulting benefit: The modeling demonstrated the plant met the NAAQS.  The air construction permit was issued based on the refined air model results.

Project: Manildra Milling, Hamburg, IA wastewater NPDES application. 
Client need: Renewal application for treated activated sludge wastewater discharge to river.  
Service provided: Having completed the last permit application five years ago, the client asked Nayes to complete the renewal application.  Samples were tested by outside lab, reports reviewed and summarized, forms completed and certified.

Resulting benefit: Wastewater can continue to be discharged under new permit.

Project: Blue Sun Biodiesel, St Joseph, MO Environmental Calendar. 
Client need: A way to keep track of environmental record keeping and reporting tasks.  
Service provided: Review copies of each environmental permit and go through them with an experienced eye for "to-do" items.  The items get listed on the spreadsheet with due dates.  They are grouped by Air, Water (NPDES), RMP, EPCRA reporting.  
Resulting benefit: The environmental calendar a planning tool for meeting deadlines and record keeping requirements.

Project: Fiberight, Blairstown, IA RFS2 Engineering Validation. 
Client need: Professional engineer’s certification of renewable fuel process for registration as a RINs producer.  
Service provided: Made a site visit to observe process operations, reviewed the producer’s registration submittal materials, and wrote a certified report for EPA to review.  This producer has a process to convert municipal solid waste to ethanol.
Resulting benefit: The producer became a registered cellulosic RINs producer.
